CHALLENGING WORDS: hare, rare

Wednesday I watched as the skinny, tan hare hopped across the highway. Rarely will a hare, or any other local inhabitant for that matter, cross that stretch of highway successfully.

Quarta-feira, observei a lebre magra e de cor bronzeada (marrom claro) atravessar a estrada. Raramente uma lebre, ou qualquer outro habitante local, cruzará aquele trecho da rodovia com sucesso.

Being a lover of all things “nature,” I hoped this hare would soon be one in the horrifically short list of nature’s rare success stories. I’d be so relieved if it was!

Sendo um amante de todas as coisas da “natureza”, esperava que esta lebre logo fosse uma na lista terrivelmente curta de raras histórias de sucesso da natureza. Eu ficaria tão aliviado se ele fosse!

Happily, I can report that this scrawny, heroic hare became a true rarity! It hopped across the other side of the highway and ran back home to its burrow, where its brood huddled, waiting for it.

Felizmente, posso relatar que esta lebre magricela e heróica se tornou uma verdadeira raridade! Ele pulou do outro lado da estrada e correu de volta para casa, para sua toca, onde está a ninhada, esperando por ele.
